Midnight Profession Knowledge: Weeklies, Treasures, Catch-up & Reset

Retail · Midnight
Checked 21 October 2026

Use this checklist for your character’s two primary professions. Knowledge unlocks specialization bonuses; it is separate from the profession skill bar. Cooking and Fishing do not use this checklist.

Choose a specialization build and follow its point order once you have collected Knowledge.

Weekly knowledge at a glance

These totals add the weekly profession quest, normal weekly drops and one treatise. They exclude patron orders, catch-up, first crafts, one-time treasures and the monthly Darkmoon Faire. They describe available rewards, not guaranteed drops within a fixed playtime.

Skinning 3 — 8 1 12 [source]

Inscription exception: a fully developed Calm Hands specialization can increase the scribe’s treatise reward to 2, making the subtotal 10. The Scribe’s Journal item awards 4 knowledge; this table uses the item reward where guide text disagrees.

A practical weekly routine

  1. Start in Silvermoon. Pick up your profession’s weekly quest. Complete the profession introduction through Captain Flaresworn if quests are missing, and check your Midnight skill requirement; reaching 25 is a useful first checkpoint. Gathering and Enchanting use material turn-ins. Other crafting professions have an order-completion quest.
  2. Check patron orders before buying reagents. An NPC order can contribute to the crafting quest while offering its own reward. Inspect the actual reward, supplied materials, required recipe and quality. An order with no knowledge reward is not extra knowledge simply because it is a patron order.
  3. Use the matching Thalassian Treatise. Scribes make profession-specific treatises; Midnight versions are Warbound. Consume one for each relevant profession each week. Buying several does not bypass the weekly use limit.
  4. Finish the appropriate drop checklist below. Crafters search repeatable world chests; gatherers gather. Enchanting has both chest and disenchanting sources.
  5. Consume the knowledge items in your bags. Collecting an item and spending the resulting specialization points are separate steps. Check the profession journal before leaving the character for the week.

Source: Method’s Midnight knowledge overview. Quest and drop details vary by profession; follow the linked profession source in the table.

Know when your weekly drops are finished

For gathering and disenchanting, the final large-reward item follows five small-reward items. A slow streak is not evidence that the weekly cap is complete.

Activity First five Final item Total
Herbalism 5 × Thalassian Phoenix Plume, 1 each Thalassian Phoenix Tail: 4 9
Mining 5 × Igneous Rock Specimen, 1 each Septarian Nodule: 3 8
Skinning 5 small drops: Fine Void-Tempered Hide / Manafused Sample, 1 each Mana-Infused Bone: 3 8
Disenchanting 5 × Swirling Arcane Essence, 1 each Brimming Mana Shard: 4 9

Crafting chest checklist: find each of your two items once per week. Each awards 2 knowledge. These are random rewards from repeatable Midnight chests, distinct from the eight fixed one-time profession treasures.

Profession Item one Item two
Alchemy Lightbloomed Spore Sample Aged Cruor
Blacksmithing Thalassian Whetstone Infused Quenching Oil
Enchanting Voidstorm Ashes Lost Thalassian Vellum
Engineering Dance Gear Dawn Capacitor
Inscription Brilliant Phoenix Ink Loa-Blessed Rune
Jewelcrafting Void-Touched Eversong Diamond Fragments Harandar Stone Sample
Leatherworking Amani Tanning Oil Thalassian Mana Oil
Tailoring Embroidered Memento Finely-Woven Lynx Collar

Decide which patron orders are worth the cost

There is no single guaranteed patron-order total for every character. Recipe access, available orders, materials and quality requirements affect what you can complete. Use this decision rule:

Gold per knowledge point = (cost of missing materials − gold reward) ÷ knowledge rewarded. Price materials you already own at their replacement cost if you want to compare orders fairly.

Example: an order needs 1,200 gold of materials, pays 200 gold and grants 2 knowledge. Its net cost is 500 gold per point. An order costing 300 gold net for 1 point is the cheaper knowledge purchase. These are illustrative prices, not current Auction House quotes. Skip a recipe you cannot make at the required quality.

Monthly and one-time sources belong on a separate list

The Darkmoon Faire profession quest can add 3 knowledge during its monthly visit. Check the in-game calendar and keep it out of a normal weekly subtotal. First-time crafts or gathers, fixed profession treasures and reputation books are also separate from the repeatable weekly routine. Sources: the profession guides linked above.

Knowledge catch-up: choose the right activity

Catch-up provides extra knowledge when your character is behind the current allowance. It is not an unlimited source after you have caught up, and it does not mean that every missed treatise or Faire visit is individually refunded.

Profession Catch-up source What to do
Alchemy, Blacksmithing, Engineering, Inscription, Jewelcrafting, Leatherworking, Tailoring Profession-specific Flicker of Midnight Knowledge on patron orders Inspect the NPC orders at your crafting table. Complete affordable orders that actually show a knowledge reward; recipe and quality restrictions still apply.
Herbalism Thalassian Phoenix Ember, 1 point Complete the trainer quest and five Plumes plus the Tail, then continue gathering Midnight herbs.
Mining Cloudy Quartz, 1 point Complete the trainer quest and five Specimens plus the Nodule, then continue mining Midnight nodes.
Skinning Additional 1-point knowledge drops from skinning Finish the weekly trainer quest and normal weekly drop sequence, then continue skinning eligible Midnight creatures.
Enchanting Glimmering Powder, 1 point Finish the trainer quest, both weekly chest items, and all six disenchanting drops. Then disenchant eligible Midnight equipment.

When catch-up drops do not appear

  1. Check completion, not just acceptance. Turn in the weekly quest and use its knowledge reward. Confirm that you received the final large weekly gathering or disenchanting item.
  2. For Enchanting, check world chests too. Missing Voidstorm Ashes or Lost Thalassian Vellum can leave the normal weekly checklist incomplete.
  3. Check your remaining allowance. A character already at its catch-up ceiling will not keep earning extra points. That ceiling changes over time, so an old guide’s fixed number is not a reliable target.
  4. Allow for randomness. One empty node or disenchant proves very little. Budget a short test session before buying a large stack of equipment solely for knowledge.

Catch-up and specialization resets solve different problems: catch-up adds eligible missing points; a reset only reallocates points already earned.

Resetting specialization points in Midnight

Patch 12.1 introduced one reset per Midnight profession per character. Visit Theremis in Silvermoon’s Bazaar, near the crafting-order area, at approximately 45.0, 56.1. Speak to him, choose the profession, and confirm only after you have planned the replacement build.

/way #2393 44.95 56.07 Theremis

The reset refunds the knowledge you spent so you can assign it again. It does not award new knowledge and it is not refreshed by the weekly reset. Your other profession has its own reset allowance. Source: Method’s reset guide and NPC location.

Recipes learned through specialization points are unlearned when those points are refunded. Reinvesting in the relevant unlock teaches them again. Check active orders before changing your build: a recipe you can craft now may disappear until you restore its unlock. Source: Patch 12.1 profession changes.

Before using your reset

  1. Write down the product or gathering goal you want the new build to serve.
  2. Record your current tree and every specialization recipe you still need.
  3. Add up the points needed to reach the replacement unlocks; include prerequisite nodes.
  4. Finish orders that depend on recipes you are about to lose.
  5. Spend refunded points in the planned order, then check the recipe’s skill and quality again before accepting another order.

Do not treat unlearning and relearning the whole profession as another reset. Fixed treasures remain one-time rewards on the character; relearning does not make their knowledge available again. Wowhead’s treasure collection rules.

One-time knowledge treasure directory

There are eight treasures per primary profession, each worth 3 knowledge: 24 points per profession, or 48 for two professions if neither set has been collected. They are one-time pickups on a character, not part of the weekly chest checklist.

Choose your profession below. Coordinates are percentages on the named map. The map number matters: Atal’Aman and Slayer’s Rise use their own maps. A pair of coordinates copied onto the surrounding zone map can send you to the wrong place.

Planning a trip: start with Silvermoon and Eversong, then combine your two professions’ stops in Zul’Aman, Harandar and Voidstorm. This is a suggested travel order, not a measured fastest route. Learn the matching Midnight profession before collecting its rewards. If an Atal’Aman object is missing, campaign phasing may be the reason; advance that area’s story before returning.

Expand “TomTom waypoints” to copy the relevant commands. They require the TomTom addon; without it, use the zone and coordinates in the table. The directory contains all 88 locations. Source links beneath each profession provide location screenshots when terrain or building height is unclear.

If a treasure is not where you expect

  1. Confirm the map name, especially Atal’Aman or Slayer’s Rise.
  2. Check above and below your marker: coordinates alone do not indicate height.
  3. Check whether this character already collected the one-time treasure.
  4. For phased campaign areas, progress the story and return. Repeatedly waiting at a missing object will not resolve a phase difference.
