Choose profession stats for the activity you actually perform. A tool for making many consumables serves a different purpose from a tool used to spend a small daily Concentration budget. These recommendations are starting points; compare the recipe’s displayed stats and your realm’s material prices before paying for an upgrade.
What each stat changes
| Stat | Effect | Relevant activity |
|---|---|---|
| Resourcefulness | Chance to save reagents during a craft. | Crafting with costly inputs |
| Multicraft | Chance to produce additional eligible items. | Recipes whose journal shows Multicraft; not ordinary armor, weapons or enchant scrolls |
| Ingenuity | Chance to refund spent Concentration. | Crafts made with Concentration |
| Crafting Speed | Shortens the crafting action. | Long crafting batches |
| Finesse | Chance to obtain extra ordinary gathered materials. | Herbalism, Mining, Skinning |
| Perception | Improves rare side-gather chances. | Gathering with valuable eligible rare materials |
| Deftness | Shortens the gathering action. | Repeated herb, ore and skinning gathers |
Concentration raises an eligible craft by one quality tier. Each crafting profession has its own pool, capped at 1,000, regenerating at 10 per hour. From empty, a full refill takes 100 hours. Ingenuity’s possible refund is not a guarantee that you can afford the next craft. Source: Wowhead’s profession-stat and Concentration reference.
Pick a priority by your goal
| Your goal | Starting priority | What could change it? |
|---|---|---|
| Make eligible potions, reagents or other stackable products in bulk | Reach the target quality, then compare Multicraft with Resourcefulness. | Extra outputs are valuable only if they sell. Expensive reagents can make savings more valuable. |
| Make one armor, weapon or profession tool per order | Meet quality first; consider Resourcefulness. | If Concentration is required, compare an Ingenuity tool for that craft. Do not pay for Multicraft where the recipe cannot use it. |
| Craft periodically using Concentration | Compare Ingenuity with reagent savings. | Estimate profit per Concentration point, not just profit per item. Check the actual cost shown in the recipe window. |
| Farm ordinary herbs, ore, leather or scales | Use Finesse as a starting point. | High-value rare side materials may justify Perception; time spent gathering may justify Deftness. |
| Farm rare side materials | Compare Perception on repeated, equal-length routes. | Use enough gathers to reduce luck’s influence. Include ordinary materials in the sale value. |
| Finish a large crafting batch or dense gathering route sooner | Crafting Speed or Deftness, respectively. | Faster actions matter less when travel, combat or waiting for respawns takes most of the session. |
These priorities are our practical interpretation of the stat effects, not a claim that one stat is always most profitable. In particular, a 10% proc chance does not automatically mean 10% more profit: proc size, eligible items, quality and sale price all matter.
Compare two setups without fooling yourself
- Use the same route, recipe, skill and specialization for the comparison.
- Record elapsed time, materials consumed or gathered, outputs and quality.
- Value both runs using the same set of prices. Deduct consumables and sale fees.
- Repeat the comparison; a lucky rare drop can dominate a short run.
- Calculate net value per hour. For Concentration crafting, also divide net profit by Concentration spent.
Break-even example: if an equipment upgrade costs 8,000 gold and raises your measured net earnings by 400 gold per hour, it takes 20 hours of similar farming to repay it. These are example numbers, not a promised return.
Choosing a missive and enchant
Thalassian profession missives are named after their stat: Resourcefulness, Multicraft, Ingenuity, Crafting Speed, Finesse, Perception or Deftness. Use the profession missive accepted by the item’s crafting slot; combat-gear missives are a separate set. Source: Method’s Midnight missive reference.
Tool enchant choices include Amani Resourcefulness, Haranir Multicrafting, Ren’dorei Ingenuity, Haranir Finesse, Amani Perception and Sin’dorei Deftness. Check the tool’s valid enchant before buying. Source: Method’s profession-tool enchant list.
Gathering consumables: effects, quality and duration
Values below are the item’s base bonuses. Specializations can affect duration or your final stats. Silver and Gold are the two Midnight consumable qualities; compare the actual item tooltip before purchasing.
| Consumable | Gathering bonus | Base duration | Use it for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Haranir Phial of Finesse | Silver: 38 Finesse + 12 Deftness; Gold: 45 + 14 | 30 minutes; persists through death | Ordinary-material yield |
| Haranir Phial of Perception | Silver: 38 Perception + 12 Deftness; Gold: 45 + 14 | 30 minutes; persists through death | Rare side-gathers |
| Argentleaf Tea | 50 Finesse | 1 hour | Ordinary-material yield |
| Sanguithorn Tea | 50 Perception | 1 hour | Rare side-gathers |
| Azeroot Tea | 50 Deftness; also grants a Speed benefit | 1 hour | Shorter gathering actions |
| Darkmoon Firewater | 15% Deftness | 1 hour | Gathering speed; this is the gathering version, not the old attack-power elixir |
| Refulgent Razorstone | Silver: 43 Finesse; Gold: 57 Finesse | 2 hours | Apply to your Mining, Herbalism or Skinning tool |
Tea bonuses: Midnight Herbalism consumable reference. Phial and razorstone quality values come from the linked item records. The current Silver Finesse phial tooltip shows 12 Deftness, rather than the 11 still printed in some guide tables.
A shopping list for a one-hour gathering session
- Two doses of your chosen phial cover an hour at base duration. An identical phial adds 30 minutes; buying both stat types is not necessary for this plan.
- One tea chosen for your goal. For Azeroot Tea, remain seated for at least 10 seconds to receive the Relaxed buff. Check your buff bar before leaving.
- One Darkmoon Firewater if the speed benefit is worth its price for your route.
- One razorstone per tool you intend to buff, unless that tool already has enough time remaining. A two-hour stone can cover a second one-hour session while its buff remains active.
This is a duration-based shopping plan, not a claim that every consumable must be bought. For two gathering professions, inspect both tools instead of assuming that a stone applied to one also sharpened the other.
Set a buff budget
Calculate the full session cost before starting. For an hour, two 40-gold phials plus a 30-gold tea and 50-gold Firewater cost 160 gold before razorstones. If your measured extra earnings are only 100 gold, that combination loses 60 gold despite producing more materials. The numbers are an example; use your Auction House prices.
Compare Silver and Gold by their additional benefit and price. A higher-quality consumable can be useful without being the best purchase. Deftness also has less opportunity to help on a route dominated by travel or combat.
