Draenor Profession Leveling: Training, Routes & Material Budgets

Retail · Warlords of Draenor
Checked 21 October 2026

These routes level the separate Draenor profession bars on Retail. Select your profession below for training, a practical path to 100, material estimates and time gates. They do not level Midnight or a Classic profession bar.

Before buying materials

Use your current skill as the stopping rule: craft to the milestone, not blindly to the listed quantity. Yellow and green recipes can miss skill gains, while racial skill bonuses can change useful recipe windows. Budgets below describe recipe stages; add any explicitly excluded training, Secrets, tools and extra attempts.

Crafting scrolls are sold by the named Ashran vendors. A matching garrison building can also supply its scroll after its first work-order quest. Optional garrison profession traders appear through the level-three town hall’s rotating visitors and are not guaranteed on a given visit. Choose the regular route if waiting would cost more than the material saving.

Alchemy: 1–100

Learn base Alchemy, then buy A Treatise on the Alchemy of Draenor from Katherine Joplin in Stormshield (Alliance) or Joshua Alvarez in Warspear (Horde).

  1. At 1, craft Secrets of Draenor Alchemy using 5 Frostweed. Reserve the resulting currency for a flask recipe.
  2. From 2 to 55, make Draenic Mana Potion with 3 Gorgrond Flytrap and a Crystal Vial per craft. Budget about 54 crafts; stop at the target skill.
  3. Buy Draenic Strength Flask with your Secret. From 55 to 100, make approximately 45 flasks, each consuming 4 Gorgrond Flytrap and 4 Nagrand Arrowbloom.

Starting budget: 5 Frostweed, 342 Gorgrond Flytrap, 180 Nagrand Arrowbloom and 54 Crystal Vials, plus a buffer for missed skill gains. Other Draenic potion/flask combinations can cost less on your realm; price both ingredients before switching.

Blacksmithing: 1–100

Buy the Draenor Blacksmithing scroll from Royce Bigbeard (Stormshield) or Nonn Threeratchet (Warspear), after learning base Blacksmithing.

  1. Craft Secrets of Draenor Blacksmithing and spend its currency on Truesteel Reshaper or Truesteel Grinder.
  2. Continue to 100 with roughly 98 Reshapers (30 True Iron Ore each), or 98 Grinders (20 Blackrock Ore and 10 True Iron Ore each).
  3. If the garrison Ore Trader is available, compare Riddle of Truesteel: 99 crafts use 99 Primal Spirit, 495 True Iron Ore and 495 Blackrock Ore. Its recipe costs another 60 True Iron Ore.

Compare 30 × True Iron price against 20 × Blackrock price + 10 × True Iron price per ordinary craft. Primal Spirits bought from the trader cost 5 True Iron Ore each. Include recipe and unlock materials in your budget; trader availability can delay the alternative.

Enchanting: 1–100

After learning Enchanting, buy the Draenor Enchanting scroll from Bil Sparktonic (Stormshield) or Hane’ke (Warspear).

  1. Make Enchanted Dust, which consumes one Draenic Dust per craft. Continue until Draenor Enchanting reaches 100.
  2. Use about 180 Draenic Dust as a starting estimate. The recipe turns green for 75–100, so buy extra dust in small batches instead of expecting exactly 180 crafts.
  3. Near the cap, compare the cost of Mark of the Shattered Hand against repeated green crafts if Temporal Crystals are cheap.

This route has no guaranteed fixed shopping total. A green recipe can fail to award skill repeatedly. Stop at 100 and keep unused dust rather than completing a preselected craft quantity.

Engineering: 1–100

Buy Draenor Engineering from Sean Catchpole (Stormshield) or Nik Steelrings (Warspear). Bring an engineering tool that supplies the required spanner and adjustor.

  1. For 1–30, budget around 12 Stealthman 54: 24 Blackrock Ore, 24 True Iron Ore and 24 Nagrand Arrowbloom. Compare Mecha-Blast Rocket or Shieldtronic Shield if the herb is expensive.
  2. Craft Secrets of Draenor Engineering, buy Didi’s Delicate Assembly, then make about 70 for 30–100. That stage needs 1,050 of each ore.
  3. Alternative: the garrison Ore Trader sells Primal Welding for 60 Blackrock Ore. Seventy crafts consume 70 Primal Spirit and 350 of each ore.

Buying all 70 Spirits adds 350 True Iron Ore. Compare that total with Didi’s route before waiting for the trader. Unlock and tool-making costs are additional; early craft counts vary with skill gains.

Inscription: 1–100

Learn base Inscription and buy Draenor Inscription from Joao Calhandro (Stormshield) or Maru’sa (Warspear). Bring a Virtuoso Inking Set and vendor parchment when recipes require them.

  1. Mill Draenor herbs to reach 25 while producing Cerulean Pigment.
  2. Craft Secrets of Draenor Inscription and buy Volatile Crystal. About 75 crafts cover 25–100, using 900 Cerulean Pigment.
  3. Alternative: the garrison Herb Trader sells The Spirit of War for 20 Cerulean Pigment. Seventy-five crafts need 300 pigment and 75 Primal Spirit.

At an estimated 2 pigment per 5 herbs, the ordinary recipe stage represents about 2,250 herbs. Milling yields fluctuate. For the alternative, include the recipe’s 20 pigment and any herbs spent buying Spirits. Seventy-five Spirits at five herbs each cost 375 herbs, not 495. Reserve unlock materials separately.

Jewelcrafting: 1–100

Buy Draenor Jewelcrafting from Artificer Harlaan (Stormshield) or Kaevan Highwit (Warspear), after learning the base profession.

  1. For a direct route, craft Secrets of Draenor Jewelcrafting and buy one Taladite recipe. Haste Taladite uses 10 Blackrock Ore and 2 Frostweed per craft.
  2. Budget roughly 98 Taladite crafts to reach 100: 980 Blackrock Ore and 196 Frostweed for that choice, plus unlock materials.
  3. If you can wait for three daily Secrets, buy Reflecting Prism or Prismatic Focusing Lens. Use about 55 Sorcerous Fire or Sorcerous Earth respectively to reach around 55, then finish with about 45 Taladite crafts.

The optional opening saves ore only if its reagents are cheap enough to justify the three-day recipe unlock. Yellow skill gains near 50–55 require a buffer. Other Taladites substitute different ore/herb combinations; compare the whole recipe cost.

Leatherworking: 1–100

Learn Draenor Leatherworking using the scroll sold by Leara Moonsilk (Stormshield) or Garm Gladestride (Warspear).

  1. Craft a Secret and buy Drums of Fury. Budget about 55 crafts for 1–55, consuming 275 Raw Beast Hide.
  2. After the next daily Secret becomes available, buy Leather Refurbishing Kit. About 45 kits take 55–100, consuming 1,350 Raw Beast Hide.
  3. Alternative for 55–100: buy Spiritual Leathercraft from the garrison Leather Trader for 60 hides. Forty-five crafts use 45 Primal Spirit and 450 hides.

The ordinary recipe stages total about 1,625 hides, excluding unlocks and extra yellow crafts. Buying all alternative-route Spirits adds 225 hides, bringing that stage to 735 including the recipe. The second ordinary recipe has a daily currency gate; the alternative depends on trader access.

Tailoring: 1–100

Buy Draenor Tailoring from Steven Cochrane (Stormshield) or Petir Starocean (Warspear), after learning Tailoring.

  1. Craft Secrets of Draenor Tailoring and buy Hexweave Embroidery.
  2. Use Antiseptic Bandage to reach 50; budget approximately 150 crafts or 750 Sumptuous Fur. Many later gains are green.
  3. From 50 to 100, make about 50 Hexweave Embroidery using 1,500 Sumptuous Fur.
  4. Alternative: stop bandages around 25, then use Primal Weaving from the garrison Fur Trader. Seventy-five crafts need 750 fur and 75 Primal Spirit; the recipe costs 60 fur.

For the alternative, estimate 200 fur for early bandages and another 375 if buying all Spirits. That is around 1,385 fur including the recipe, before skill-gain variation. Existing Spirits reduce the cash cost; trader access can increase elapsed time.

Herbalism: 1–100

Pick a Draenor herb and use A Compendium of the Herbs of Draenor from the loot to learn the expansion track.

  1. Gather herbs across Nagrand, Talador, Frostfire Ridge or Shadowmoon Valley until the Draenor bar reaches 100.
  2. Choose a zone that supplies the herbs your paired crafting route consumes. Keep gathering even when the herb type changes; these zones can support the full leveling span.

A Sky Golem allows herb gathering without dismounting. Keep the minimap’s herb tracking enabled and avoid confusing Draenor Nagrand/Shadowmoon Valley with their Outland namesakes. Crafting consumes these herbs, but crafting does not raise Herbalism.

Mining: 1–100

Mine outdoor Blackrock or True Iron deposits and use A Treatise on Mining in Draenor. The learning scroll does not drop from your garrison mine.

  1. If the scroll is missing, check your bags and bank for an existing copy before farming more deposits.
  2. Mine both ore types through 100 in Frostfire Ridge, Talador or Draenor’s Shadowmoon Valley. Check the Draenor skill bar rather than the unrelated base Mining track.

Keep both ores until you have priced your Engineering or Blacksmithing route. A route that needs equal quantities of both can become expensive if you sell one type before crafting. Training access comes first; garrison mining is not a substitute for obtaining the outdoor learning scroll.

Skinning: 1–100

Skin a beast in Draenor and use A Guide to Skinning in Draenor to learn this track.

  1. Level to 100 by skinning Tamed Clefthoof in Draenor Nagrand at 78.7, 72.2. Check the nearby clefthoof by the Gorian Gladiators if the main pack stops respawning.
  2. Alternatives include Frost Wolves in Frostfire Ridge and Moonshell Crawlers in Shadowmoon Valley. Move if competition leaves you waiting for corpses.

Loot each beast before attempting to skin it. Keep Raw Beast Hide for Leatherworking and any Sumptuous Fur for Tailoring. Older guides quote pre-squish character levels for these areas; use the current client’s zone scaling and your ability to kill safely rather than those historical level labels.

Cooking: 1–100

Learn The Joy of Draenor Cooking from a Draenor humanoid drop. Recipe discoveries are random, so reserve enough ingredients to continue until your chosen pair appears.

  1. 1–20: about 30 Grilled Saberfish, using 150 Crescent Saberfish Flesh.
  2. 20–75: choose a matching pair, such as Fat Sleeper Cakes and Braised Riverbeast. Budget around 33 crafts of each: 330 Fat Sleeper Flesh and 165 Raw Riverbeast Meat. Alternate batches; output rises at skill 50.
  3. 75–95: combine that matching pair into its discovered advanced dish, Sleeper Surprise. Other stat pairs have their own combination recipe. Reserve the required herb shown in your recipe window.
  4. 95–100: finish with roughly five Feast of Blood or Feast of the Waters; each route consumes 50 of each of its six meat or fish ingredients.

Keep intermediate dishes. Selling them forces you to buy or remake the ingredients for the next stage. Counts are estimates; discoveries and yellow/green skill gains change the final total.
