Archaeology is a secondary profession. Learn it from an Archaeology trainer and use Survey inside a marked dig site. Follow the telescope’s direction; its light turns from red to yellow to green as you approach the find.
Leveling 1–600

| 50–600 | Continue gathering fragments and solve artifacts in the Archaeology journal. Train higher ranks before reaching the current cap. |
Use the fragment gathering guide to choose the continent and research race. Dig sites belong to your character, and clearing one opens another. Artifact projects are random; a rare reward is not guaranteed.
Train Zen Master for the 600 cap. Pandaria dig sites become available at 525 and provide Pandaren, Mogu or Mantid fragments.
