Classic Era · Fishing + Cooking 1–300

Level both skills on one travel plan: catch the fish needed by your next Cooking recipe, buy the next recipe before leaving town, and unlock each rank before consuming the saved fish. This plan uses original level-60 Classic rules. Both are secondary professions, so you can keep your two primary professions.

Pack before the first cast

Train both skills, equip a fishing pole, bring lures and keep bag space for raw fish. Learn Brilliant Smallfish and Longjaw Mud Snapper first. Alliance can start at Goldshire with Cooking trainer Tomas, Fishing trainer Lee Brown and recipe seller Tharynn Bouden. Horde can use Bloodhoof Village with Pyall Silentstride, Uthan Stillwater and Harn Longcast.

After Artisan Fishing, to 255	Continue inland Dustwallow.	Finish Cooking 225, then unlock Artisan Cooking.	Do not consume the stored fish while capped.
255–300	Hinterlands inland lake west of Skulk Rock.	Filet of Redgill to 250; Nightfin Soup or Poached Sunscale Salmon toward 300.	Use lures, match fish to server time and keep fishing if Cooking trails behind.

Buy the books before you reach a cap

• Expert Fishing — The Bass and You: Old Man Heming, Booty Bay, about 27.4,77.0. Requires character level 20 and Fishing 125; raises the cap to 225. Book requirements.
• Expert Cookbook: Shandrina at Mystral Lake, Ashenvale (Alliance), or Wulan at Shadowprey Village, Desolace (Horde). Use it at Cooking 125 before the 150 cap. Cooking rank reference.
• Booty Bay recipe stop: Kelsey Yance sells Mithril Head Trout and Filet of Redgill. Purchase both on the same visit as the Fishing book.

Artisan Fishing: four fish, two continents

At character level 35 and Fishing 225, accept Nat Pagle, Angler Extreme from Nat on the small island by Tidefury Cove in Dustwallow Marsh, around 59,60. Accept the quest before traveling and fish in open water in the named subzones. Quest fish will not progress a quest you have not accepted.

Artisan Cooking: reserve this exact shopping list

At level 35 and Cooking 225, complete Clamlette Surprise for Dirge Quikcleave in Gadgetzan’s inn, Tanaris. Bring 12 Giant Eggs, 10 Zesty Clam Meat and 20 Alterac Swiss. Eggs come from large birds such as Tanaris rocs; the clam meat comes from clams, and the cheese is a vendor purchase. These are quest hand-ins, not ingredients to cook first. Quest quantities.

The final fish depend on time of day

At the Hinterlands lake, Redgill supports the 225–250 Cooking stage. Nightfin is best from midnight–6 a.m. server time and absent noon–6 p.m.; Sunscale Salmon follows the opposite daily pattern. Buy both final recipes so the available catch determines what you cook. An effective Fishing skill of 300 helps prevent escapes in these inland waters. Time windows and effective-skill reference.

When the two skills drift apart

Fishing catches and yellow Cooking skill gains are variable, so a fixed “exactly 300 fish” promise would be misleading. Stop at each checkpoint, cook the saved catch, and compare both bars. If Cooking is ahead, save its next ingredient while you finish Fishing. If Cooking is behind, keep fishing the needed habitat or price only the shortfall at the auction house. Never sell the next stage’s raw fish merely because you cannot cook it yet.
