What’s to Come Before Mists of Pandaria

Mists of Pandaria was the big news at BlizCon in October. The new expansion promises sumo/ninja pandas as a new dual faction playable race. The race will cross both factions during the first few levels and then be given the option to choose either Horde or Alliance once and for all. Along with a new playable race comes new starting zones, new level 85-90 content, new farm’able trade goods, new raids, dungeons and everything under the sky but what should we expect between now and Mists of Pandaria?

Release Date

First of all, we should get one thing straight. What is the expected release date of Mists of Pandaria? Blizzard leaked a diagram last February which revealed their produce ‘slate’ for the next several years. It included several things that have come true, including Diablo 3’s previously planned Q4 2011 release (kicked back to Q1 2012). It also predicted a Q2 release of MoP. In the past Blizzard has released expansions about 2 years apart from each other and we last saw Cataclysm at the end of 2010, 1 year ago. Given that track record we may expect to see MoP at the end of 2012, but we have heard from both the developers and from their leaked release schedule that a Q2 release was in the works.

I believe we’ll see Mists of Pandaria late summer of 2012, as Blizzard is usually a little slower than they plan to be. Their hype machine has not yet been fired up either.

But we need more content!

Remember Icecrown Citadel during Wrath of the Lich King? It was released an entire year before Cataclysm. It featured the Lich King, the end boss of the Wrath story line similar to how the recent Patch 4.3 features Deathwing, the final boss of the Cataclysm storyline. However, after ICC there was another content patch which included the Ruby Sanctum, new gear and some extra content to keep players busy. Curse gaming recently interviewed Ghostcrawler and he mentioned that there is no content patch in the works to be released before MoP.

Will there be another patch before Mists of Pandaria?
“We said that we are not going to do another tier of raiding content and PvP season, but we will do the normal pre expansion launch patch. This would include things like the new talents and the other big mechanics changes coming in the expansion, along with the launch event that deals with the Horde vs Alliance story and the introduction of the new continent. The launch event will be similar in magnitude to what we did for Wrath of the Lich King and Burning Crusade.”

This may be a bit startling if you expect Blizzard to wait until the end of 2012 to release MoP. That’s probably because they don’t intend to wait that long.

Tip: Have you ever wondered how players have so many level 85s or how they can level an 85 so quickly? I use and strongy recommend Zygor's in-game leveling addon which will enable you to level in 5 days of played time. You can find a free version of it here.
