Item Level: 40
Skill Requirement: Mining Level 200
Recommended Level: 50+
Thorium Ore is the highest quality ore in the original World of Warcraft. At level 60 players would spend hours farming Thorium Ore from Thorium Veins and Rich Thorium Veins. Today, Thorium is still very valuable since most players refuse to farm old world minerals but they still need it to level Blacksmithing past level 300. It is also used to make the required Thorium Rod for Enchanters, used in leveling Engineering, sometimes Jewelcrafting and some novelty items that players still want to make.
Thorium is best farmed from level 55-60 zones with at least level 250 mining. It sells best in stacks of 20 on the auction house, typically for anywhere between 1.5 gold and 3 gold per bar. There is not a good place in the Eastern Kingdoms to mine Thorium. Your best bet would be in the Blasted Lands or the Swamp of Sorrow, but I’m going to recommend you just head over the Kalimdor to either of the below mining maps.
Update: You can make a lot of gold with Thorium, but if you want to step it up and make thousands of gold you should read my personal favorite guide.
Where to Farm Thorium
Farming Thorium in Winterspring
Without a doubt, Winterspring is the BEST place to farm Thorium. You should wait until you’re level 56 or higher before you go there though. Follow the edges of the zone near the mountains to find the most number of veins:
Farming Thorium in Silithus
There is also a lot of Thorium Veins in Silithus, that’s why it’s the second best place to mine thorium. Just like in Winterspring, circle the outside of the zone along the mountains and make sure you’re in your high 50s. Follow this mining route for best results:
Tip: Have you ever wondered how players have so many level 85s or how they can level an 85 so quickly? I use and strongy recommend Zygor's in-game leveling addon which will enable you to level in 5 days of played time. You can find a free version of it here.
