Farming Iron Ore

Iron Ore
Iron Ore
Item Level: 30
Where to Farm: Feralas or Western Plaguelands
Skill Requirement: Mining Level 100
Recommended Level: 35+

Iron Ore is a level 30 ore that require level 100 mining to farm. It is usually worth about 20 gold per stack but can often be in very low supply on your auction house. It sells best in stacks of 20 like most other ore and to Blacksmiths. It is used to create a large variety of Blacksmithing items between levels 150 and 200. Farming it is pretty easy and you will find a lot of different stuff at the same time. My favorite places to farm are in Feralas (Kalimdor) and Western Plaguelands (Eastern Kingdom).

Update: You can make a lot of gold with Iron, but if you want to step it up and make thousands of gold you should read my personal favorite guide.

Where to Farm Iron

Farming Iron Ore in Feralas

The best place to farm Iron Ore is in Feralas, which is well known for its herbs, minerals and leather. If you are also an Herbalist or a Skinner you will find a lot of extra stuff here (if you’re a skinner, swing by the Yeti caves for extra leather).  You should make sure you’re level 35-40 before you head here and then follow this farming route:

Farming Iron Ore in Western Plaguelands

The second best place to farm Iron Ore is in Western Plaguelands. This zone is more appropriate if you’re already in the Eastern Kingdoms and don’t want to travel to Feralas. The same level restriction (35-40) will make your life easier when farming Iron Ore in WPL. Follow this route and you will also find a variety of other minerals. If you are higher level you can head into the Eastern Plaguelands and find a lot of Iron Ore there as well.

Tip: Have you ever wondered how players have so many level 85s or how they can level an 85 so quickly? I use and strongy recommend Zygor's in-game leveling addon which will enable you to level in 5 days of played time. You can find a free version of it here.
