Welcome to my Mists of Pandaria Engineering Guide. In Mists of Pandaria, Engineering has received a lot of attention, becoming the host of two new tradable engineering mounts, a handful of attachable toys, some vanity pets, ranged enchants (scopes), a wormhole generator, a blingtron and some bad ass engineer specific retinal armor. If you need more gold to fund your engineering endeavors, learn how to make gold the right way first.
There are two new mounts, each of them is expensive to craft but can be sold on the auction house. All they require is level 20, so they will sell to twinks, levelers and max level characters. The patterns for each of them are available at the trainer at level 600, making them a little easier to make than some may like.
This mount requires 12 Living Steel bars, 200 Kypanite, 3 Orbs of Mystery, 12 High-Explosive Gunpower, 12 Spirits of Harmony and 20 Ghost Iron Bolts. The most expensive of these materials include the Living Steel, which are each created with a 1 day cooldown transmute at the cost of 12 Trillium Bars. Each Trillium Bar is 2 Black Trillium Ore and 2 White Trillium Ore. Orbs of Mystery are expected to sell at a vendor Vale of the Eternal Blossoms for 25,000 gold each. The 12 Spirits of Harmony will also require you to play your engineer, since these are random BoP drops all over Pandaria.
The World Spinner requires 12 Living Steel, 12 Trillium Bars, 12 Spirits of Harmony, 20 Ghost Iron Bolts and 3 Orbs of Mystery.
There are several cool new toys you can make, all of them require level 500 or 550 engineering to use and require a single Tinker’s Kit to create.
Attaches to your gloves and gives you the ability to “increase your highest stat by 2940.” This effect is active for 10 seconds and has a 1 minute cooldown. This ability looks powerful enough to efficiently increase your DPS and healing in raids and dungeons.
Attaches to your gloves (you can’t use both these and Synapse Springs at the same time) and gives you the ability to “increase dodge by 20,520.” This effect lasts 10 seconds and can be used every 1 minute. This is ability will help tanks and possibly even players in PvP stay alive.
Incendiary Fireworks Launcher
Attaches to your gloves and gives you the ability to shoot fireworks out your fingers and deal 14,000 fire damage over 3 seconds. This ability can be used every 45 seconds. This is a more direct-damage approach to improving your damage.
Attaches to your cloak, giving you the ability to slow-fall for 30 seconds. While slow-falling you will be able to control your direction and thrust. This goblin glider likely has a 30 minute cool down.
Attaches to your belt (what, really? belt? Yup) and gives you the ability to walk on water and swim faster for 6 seconds. This ability can be used every 30 seconds.
There are a few potentially useful pieces of equipment. Some for leveling and others will be best in slot items. The Ghost Iron Dragonling will be a great leveling trinket from level 87 to 90. There is also the ilvl 450 rare ranged weapon, the Long-Range Trillium Scope. A few people might find this helpful at level 90.
Finally, there are 7 different varieties of Retinal Armor. These are similar to the head pieces in Cataclsym and Wrath of the Lich King. They can only be used by engineers, and with their rare ilvl 476 level they will be very useful right at level 90. Each one requires 6 Living Steel, some sort of rare gem and 12 Ghost Iron Bolts.
- Agile Retinal Armor – Agility and Stamina (Leather)
- Camouflage Retinal Armor – Intellect and Stamina (Leather)
- Deadly Retinal Armor – Agility and Stamina (Mail)
- Lightweight Retinal Armor – Intellect and Stamina (Cloth)
- Reinforced Retinal Armor – Strength and Stamina (Plate)
- Specialized Retinal Armor – Intellect and Stamina (Plate)
- Energized Retinal Armor – Intellect and Stamina (Mail)
This guide was difficult to make, because it requires a different amount of Ghost Iron Bars depending on which method you use to reach 600. At level 580 you’re going to get to decide whether you want to spend Spirit of Harmony or tons of Ghost Iron. Good luck!
Levels 525-550 (or 500-600)
As soon as you’re level 500 you can start making Ghost Iron Bolts and High-Explosive Gunpowder. You will need a lot of these to reach level 600, so it’s smart to max these two crafts out so that you’re not wasting materials on other crafts.
You will need at least 82 Ghost Iron Bolts and 30 High-Explosive Gunpowder. That is, if you’re willing to spend 8 Spirit of Harmony to reach 600, otherwise you’ll need even more.
- Level 500-550: Craft 41 Ghost Iron Bolts (you’ll make 82) – 123 Ghost Iron Bars
- Level 500-550: Craft 15 High-Explosive Gunpowder (you’ll make 30) – 15 Ghost Iron Bars
Due to the way leveling is designed, we want to get exactly 549 before we continue to the next step. To do this, craft exactly 4 Tinker’s Kits.
- Level 550-554: Craft 4 Tinker’s Kit – 8 High-Explosive Gunpowder, 8 Ghost Iron Bolts and 8 Windwool Cloth
Now that you’re exactly level 554, you can craft 5 Ghost Iron Dragonlings (which will sell well on the auction house) to get to 579 and then another Tinker’s Kit to get to 580.
- Level 554-579: Craft 5 Ghost Iron Dragonling – 20 High-Explosive Gunpowder, 40 Ghost Iron Bolts and 60 Windwool Cloth
- Level 579-580: Craft 1 Tinker’s Kit – 2 High-Explosive Gunpowder, 2 Ghost Iron Bolts and 2 Windwool Cloth
Update: You can make a lot of gold with Engineering, but if you want to step it up and make thousands of gold you should read my personal favorite guide.
At this point, everything that is orange (guaranteed level up) in your professions tab requires at least 1 Spirit of Harmony. Crafting only 4 of these will get you to level 600 right away. The other option is to craft 15-25 Thermal Anvils until level 595, this could cost as much as another 840 Ghost Iron Bars. and will still cost you a Spirit of Harmony (595-600) anyways.
Check prices on your realm to see what is the best option.
Here are your options:
Option 1 (Requires a lot of Ghost Iron Bars)
- Level 580-595: Craft 15+ Thermal Anvil – 120 High-Explosive Gunpowder and 90 Ghost Iron Bolts
- Level 595-600: Craft 1 Mist-Piercing Goggles – 8 Ghost Iron Bolts and 2 Spirits of Harmony
Option 2 (Requires Spirit of Harmony)
Any combination of:
- Level 580-600: Craft 4 Lord Blastington’s Scope of Doom – 72 Ghost Iron Bolts, 8 Primordial Ruby and 4 Spirit of Harmony
- Level 580-600: Craft 4 Mist-Piercing Goggles – 32 Ghost Iron Bolts and 8 Spirits of Harmony
Congrats on getting level 600 Engineering!
Tip: Have you ever wondered how players have so many level 85s or how they can level an 85 so quickly? I use and strongy recommend Zygor's in-game leveling addon which will enable you to level in 5 days of played time. You can find a free version of it here.
